The post quickly went viral on social media platforms, raising significant concerns about the safety of women in public transportation. According to the account, the incident occurred around 8:50 a.m. at the Majestic Metro station. The train was unusually overcrowded, with pushing and shoving exacerbated by the lax management of passenger flow.
The victim, who typically takes the bus to college, decided to opt for the Metro that day. As the crowded train progressed, the friend recounted, the victim began feeling uncomfortable and soon realised that a man in a red shirt standing behind her was groping her. Despite her immediate reaction and cries for help, the harasser managed to escape, and the apathetic response of the co-passengers left the victim traumatized.
“My friend didn’t initially realize what was happening. The moment she turned around, the man literally sprinted away. She started screaming and crying for help, but nobody seemed to care,” the Reddit post stated, portraying the distressing reality of the situation.
The Bengaluru Metro Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has yet to receive an official complaint about the incident. However, BMRCL officials assured that if a complaint is lodged, immediate action will be taken, including the verifica[1]tion of CCTV footage. This incident follows a similar case on September 9 when another college student had reported sexual harassment during her Metro journey.
