Green is no longer just a colour. It’s a statement, a lifestyle, and this season’s most Instagrammed beverage—Matcha is having a full-blown moment in Bangalore.
From the CBD to Koramangala’s leafy cafés, this Japanese green tea powder is stealing the show. And it’s not just for the ‘Gram. While the classic matcha latte (hot or iced, oat milk preferred) remains a cult favourite, city menus are now bursting with bold twists—think mango matcha fusions, strawberry swirls, and even the roasted sibling, Hojicha.
Wellness warriors are lapping it up. Usha Deo, yoga and nutrition coach, says, “Matcha is photogenic, yes—but people are turning to it for the real deal: antioxidants, calm energy, and no coffee crashes.” Blame it on L-theanine, the compound that delivers focus minus the jitters.
For some, it’s personal. Communication pro Ankita Chomal has been a loyal sipper for six years. “It calms me, grounds me—and making it feels ritualistic,” she shares. Her homegrown community, Matcha Connect, blends wellness and togetherness over creative concoctions like Iced Matcha Banana Latte and Matcha Chocolate Bites.
Whether you’re in it for the glow, the chill, or the antioxidants, one thing’s clear – Bangalore is drinking green—and loving every sip.
In short, Matcha isn’t just a fad—it’s a full-blown culture shift. And Bangalore’s cafés are catching on fast. Here’s where to get your matcha fix.
Muro
Muro serves Iced Matcha Latte, which is a simple and clean version made with imported Japanese matcha and chilled milk, great if you like your matcha classic. Then there’s the Iced Caramel Matcha, which is a little sweeter thanks to their in-house caramel. It’s super refreshing. The third option, Mixberry Matcha, is a little more fun; it’s matcha with a barista-made sweet cream that comes in two flavours – mixed berry or mango. If you enjoy fruitier flavours in your matcha, the mixed berry one is especially nice.
Nasi and Mee
At Nasi and Mee the matcha offerings are designed to celebrate the ingredient’s versatility across formats, from indulgent desserts to refreshing beverages. Chef Ujjain, Corporate Development Chef at Foodsta Kitchens (Nasi and Mee), says they use gourmet-grade matcha sourced from Malaysia—picked specifically for its vibrant colour, balanced bitterness, and nuanced umami flavour.
“Our Matcha Panna Cotta is a standout,” he notes, describing it as a delicately set dessert that melts in the mouth, allowing the depth of matcha to shine through.
Among crowd-pullers is the Matcha Bubble Tea, praised for its nostalgic texture and bold tea notes. The Matcha Latte, on the other hand, is a gentler, creamier option—perfect for those easing into the world of matcha.
SOCIAL
SOCIAL’s new all-day menu, The Big Drop, gives matcha its moment, with three lattes crafted for India’s growing taste for flavour, comfort and discovery. Known for staying in step with cultural trends and café cravings, SOCIAL takes the familiar green fix and turns it into something distinctly their own which is playful, thoughtful, and right at home with the times. Try the Classic Iced Matcha Latte, Coconut Water Matcha Latte, and White Chocolate Matcha Vanilla Latte.
Ground Up Café
With the ever-increasing interest and curiosity surrounding matcha all over the world, India isn’t far behind. At Ground Up Café, matcha is clearly having a moment. Co-founder Umar Shabeer notes a noticeable uptick in matcha-focused orders, prompting them to add a few ceremonial-grade classics to the menu.
“All our baristas are trained to whisk matcha just right,” he says, recommending an iced matcha with almond milk and no sweetener as his personal go-to. As more matcha bars pop up across Bangalore, Shabeer believes there’s room for both speciality coffee and matcha to thrive. “It’ll be interesting to see how the space evolves,” he adds.
The Kind Roastery and Brewroom
The Kind Roastery & Brewroom menu places matcha at the heart of each creation, whether it’s softening the richness of a Basque cheesecake, brightening tropical fruit infusions, or harmonising with berries in delicate bakes alongside the beloved classics in beverages, from hot and iced lattes to a refreshing Matcha Melonade.
The menu includes Uji Green Basque Cheesecake, Matcha Pineapple Melody, Matcha and Berry Cupcake, The Kind Green Muffin, Rose Matcha Iced Latte, Matcha and White Chocolate Latte, Matcha and White Chocolate Iced Latte, Salted Caramel Matcha Shake and more.
Maverick & Farmer
Instead of following the usual route of lattes and smoothies, Maverick & Farmer have layered matcha with regional flavours and seasonal ingredients to create something that feels both familiar and fresh. The Matcha-Aam Panna stands out with its base of chargrilled green mango, rock salt, and a delicate matcha foam, capturing the essence of summer in India while balancing the earthiness of high-quality, shade-grown Japanese matcha.
Here, matcha is getting a quirky yet thoughtful twist. Co-founder, Q grader and coffee roaster Ashish D’abreo highlights the Matcha Tender Coconut Fizz—a refreshing blend of carbonated tender coconut water, musk melon, and a frothy matcha cloud—as a top pick.
“These aren’t just gimmicks. They’re ingredient-driven innovations rooted in local flavour preferences,” he explains. For purists, there’s the freshly whisked matcha or a straight-up latte. But if you’re only ordering one, D’abreo swears by the Aam Panna Matcha, a clever nod to Indian street-side nostalgia—with a sophisticated spin.
